Center Coast Jr Basketball Win First 3 the IHSA State Tournament

Confluence Center Coast finished their first day at the Illinois High School Association State Basketball Tournament with a record of 3-0. Coast is one of six teams competing for the wheelchair basketball state championships.

Thanks to newcomers 8 year old Katelyn Carpunky from Alton and 10 year old Austin Wilson from Metropolis, returning players James Clark from Mt. Vernon, Colin DeWitt from Benton and Cameron Oestringer from Highland get the opportunity to improve on the 2008 2nd place finish. And they are off to a great start.

Today Coast defeated GLASA Wave 48-15, Rockford Jr. Chariots 50-12 and NEDSRA Jr. Bulls 50-11. Tomorrow, Saturday March 14th, the team will play the Peoria Wildcats at 10:15 AM and the Windy City Warriors (also 3-0) in the final game of the round robin tournament at 4:00 PM. The Awards Ceremony will immediately follow the game.

Since the first IHSA State Wheelchair Basketball Championship held in 2004, Coast has taken 3rd in 2004, 1st in 2005, 2nd in 2006 and 2008. Beginning last year the IHSA has donated funds to each participating wheelchair basketball team to support the development of each program. The Confluence places their funding in a scholarship fund that will be utilized by each player upon graduation from the Center Coast Junior Team and High School. For every game a junior player competes in $50 is dedicated to their scholarship fund.
